Entry Requirements:

This qualification is aimed at practicing electricians interested in understanding how to design and install the range of electric vehicle supply equipment and systems available. All candidates must be at least 18 years of age.

Course Content:

This course will cover the designing of low-voltage radial power circuits, with a focus on installing small-scale electric vehicle supply equipment in domestic and small commercial settings.
By completing this qualification, electricians can enhance their expertise in regard to EV charging infrastructure, with the aim of ensuring safe and efficient installations for the growing demand in this field.
The course will cover the following key areas:
  • Statutory and non statutory documents relating to EVSE
  • Modes of charging equipment
  • Connectors and connection arrangements
  • Considerations prior to installation of EV charging equipment
  • Design and installation considerations for the EVSE
  • Testing EVSE circuits in line with Part 6 of BS 7671
  • Requirements for commissioning EVSE in domestic and small commercial settings
  • How electric vehicle charging installations can be utilised as energy storage systems
  • Design considerations for overcurrent protection in island-mode operation
  • Commissioning of EVSE including those that incorporates V2X functionality
  • Smart charging integration into electrical installations

Assessment Criteria:

1 Hour online exam completed at our centre – 60 minutes to answer 30 multiple choice questions using the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installations and BS7671 books. Pass Mark: 75%
